Szekely, Laszlo "Les"

July 1950 - January 2024
Laszlo Les Szekely passed away peacefully at age 73 with family by his side on January 12 at the Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital. He will be greatly missed by his wife Erzsebet and daughter Reka. He was heartbroken to lose his daughter Zsuzsa in 2019. Born in Gilau, Romania on July 10, 1950, his family and friends knew him as Laci. He immigrated to Canada in 1986 in search of a better life for his family and became Les to friends and co-workers. He settled in Ajax, Ontario in 1993 where he lived until his passing. He always had a love for cars and anything with an engine and was a master mechanic working on Volkswagens most of his career. He retired from Pickering Volkswagen in 2015. Les loved fishing and the outdoors and spent many years camping and boating with his family in his younger days. Later, he was happiest spending time at his cottage in Trent Hills on the Trent River. Les was a friendly guy who will be remembered for loving a good story and telling jokes and even as he struggled with cancer and other health issues in his last months, he never fully lost his sense of humour. He was a hard worker dedicated to his family and he was very much loved and appreciated. He will be in our hearts forever.
The family will receive friends at ACCETTONE FUNERAL HOME, 384 Finley Ave. in Ajax, on Sunday Jan. 21 at noon. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. If you would like to make a memorial donation, please consider the Lakeridge Health Foundation.
