The death occurred peacefully at Oak Ridge Hospice, Port Parry, Ontario on Thursday November 7, 2024 of Bennett MacNeill of Ajax, Ontario.
Ben was born in Ellis River, PEI on February 9, 1938 to his late parents, Josephine (Cameron) and Augustine McNeill. Ben moved to Ontario at a young age and married his love, Mary (O’Brien). They settled in Ajax, where they found happiness in their careers, family visits and dedication to their church. Ben’s career as a long haul truck driver gave him the opportunity to see many beautiful parts of Canada and the USA.
Ben will be fondly remembered in his community of Ajax, Ontario as a thoughtful neighbor, a loyal friend and faithful parishioner of Saint Bernadette Catholic Church.
Ben so enjoyed his summer visits to Prince Edward Island where he loved to spend time visiting with family, enjoying a game of cards or Bingo, always making time to take in a round or two of golf and attend various parish picnics to reacquaint with family and friends.
He leaves to mourn his sister, Lillian Gallant, sisters in law, Florence McNeill and Hilda O’Brien, numerous nieces and nephews and his special, devoted friend Dolly Espiritu.
Besides his loving wife Mary and son Micheal,who died in infancy, Ben was predeceased by brothers Walter (Pat), Francis “Juniorâ€, Leonard, Arnold (Virginia) and sisters Sarah (Leo), Doreen (Gerald) and brother in law Kenneth Gallant. As well as brothers and sisters in law, Angela (Frankie), Marion (Wilfred) Horace, Rev. Willard O’Brien, Beatrice, Ralph (Helen), Noreen (Roy), Ralph (Helen), Lois (Edgar), Ivan (Matilda) & Alton (Jean)
Resting at Accettone Funeral Home, 384 Finley Ave, Ajax, Ontario where visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 13 from 6-9pm. Funeral mass to take place on Thursday, November 14, Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, 21 Bayly St. E. Ajax at 2:00pm. Interment to take place in the Resurrection Cemetery in Whitby.

From the first time we met Benny at his wedding to Mary in 1968, we knew we had a wonderful new uncle in the family. He and Mary came out west to visit often over the years. During those visits, the card games were never ending and the jokes and laughs were plentiful. He and Mary opened their Etobicoke and Ajax homes to me so many times. Always a gentlemen. Always true to his religious beliefs. He can now rest with Mary and little Michael.

Benny was a good uncle to the Shea (Angela O’Brien) Family. He and Mary would come to PEI in the summer or fall of the year and they enjoyed a good time at our family home. Benny was a quieter man but he could and did let his guard down and have a very fun time with my parents. I remember buying my first car in Toronto and Benny and my Dad were with me. I was very happy to get Benny’s opinion on my big purchase as he had a good knowledge of cars.
Please know that we will be thinking of Benny’s family over the next few days.
