Steven was hugely influential on me in my youth in the best ways possible. He was such an accepting friend even when I was at my most awkward. We lost touch after elementary school, but I never forgot him. I still have a mix tape he gave me then - and, in my mind, I can still hear the hilarious jokes he'd tell and see the amazing sketches he'd do during class. I am so sorry you are gone. Wishing strength to your family and loved ones.

Steven was artistically gifted, a master of the written word and absolutely hilarious. He befriended an eclectic group of people from all walks of life, all of which would tell you about his wit, determination, encouraging nature and empathy. The last time I saw him he had decided I needed to get back into art, giving me an easel and dragging me to an art store and pointing out what tools I was missing in my stash. Whether a much needed nudge, a chuckle gifted to a passerby or a bit of egg fed to a vagabond cat, he left a positive mark behind - this is the Steven I miss and the Steven I will always remember.
My deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, loved ones and all those he touched.

I know Steven from the Junction Writer's Group. I think we only met once in person (he wore a shirt with pink flamingoes on it) but we connected at the group Zoom meetings and via phone and email between our sessions. He was very generous in his help of my writing projects and really took the time to provide honest and insightful feedback. His writing was full of amazing imaginary worlds, zany situations, extreme characters and intense emotions. I am so glad I knew Steven and so sorry he is no longer with us. My sincere condolences to his family.

Occasionally a butterfly will land near you for just a moment, and when it flies away the beauty of it is left behind. Within that moment Steven became completely engaged with you, wanted to know more, and without taking anything from you, he left greater gifts behind. That is how I feel about Steven. Sending my very deepest condolences to Steven's family and friends.<3

My heartfelt condolences to Steve's family and all those who knew him and loved him. Steve was my brother's best friend. I remember one time I was playing Neil Diamond's "Song Sung Blue" in my room, and he came in and told me it was one of his favourites and it would cheer him up when he felt down. I have been playing it in memory of him. May you be at peace Steve.

My heart is so broken with Steven's passing. He was my best friend for 22 years -- the best friend I have ever had, or could have wanted -- and his impact on my life is immeasurable. His huge heart, incredible talent & imagination, hilarious sense of humour, and bold, beautiful laugh, smile and hugs were without equal.
I truly loved him as a brother.
There is nowhere in my apt (or my heart) that I don't see traces of what he gave me, reminders of his giving spirit.
As I read through the condolences it is so wonderful to see how much and how many lives he touched, how kindly he lived, and how he will be missed.
I know that Paola, his mother Diane, and all his siblings & extended family & friends meant so much to him and were of great support throughout his life, and I extend wishes for peace to all of those who had Steven in their lives.

Steven was a valued member of our Writer's Group, meeting by Zoom every two weeks. He was a talented writer with a great control of language and a vivid imagination. He had a zany wit and sense of humour. All of this is poignantly illustrated with the collection of stories he sent us recently.
My condolences to his family and friends.Try to remember that he who lives in your heart never dies.

There was no limit to Steven's empathy and unique artistic vision. He was passionate, driven, and hilarious.
One time, slightly before GPS's were in every car, I was somewhat early when driving him, so I tried a downtown street I never been on before, saying "let's see where this goes." He responded "I didn't know you had such a zest for getting lost!"
Another time we offered him some of my Mom's freshly baked carrot cake. "Oooh, that's my favourite kind of carrots!" he said. No, not cake. Favourite kind of . . . carrots.
I'll miss you, my friend. Keep it weird.

Steven literally changed my life, by opening my consciousness to reality that all life is one. That we are each other. I'm honestly not exaggerating that he was the most gentle, kind and helpful person you could ever hope to have in you life. He helped me with some major art projects, ar OCAD and after. Steven made me see that life was joyful and beautiful. I miss him, and will try my best to carry his spirit and be more like him in. My warmest condolences to his family and friends

He was my brother by choice first, and then by marriage. We used to say it didnt matter how we were related but how we felt. We challenged and supported each other, spoke out hearts and our minds, and always tried to do the best by each other, even if it was uncomfortable. He was my closest confidant throughout my life, but I think he was for a lot people. Steven listened; he gave something of himself to everyone that way. I will keep that piece of Steven close for the rest of my days.
“Be excellent to each other.”
